Does DoorDash Take EBT? Amazon, Instacart and Delivery Fees (2026)

Quick answer: Yes. DoorDash takes SNAP EBT for eligible groceries at participating grocery and convenience stores, and you can add your card under Account, Payment, Program Cards.¹ Instacart, Amazon, Walmart and Uber Eats take SNAP online too, and SNAP online shopping now works in all 50 states and DC.² SNAP can't pay delivery fees, service fees or tips, so every app needs a backup card for those.² For how SNAP works and how to apply, see our SNAP (food stamps) guide.

Which delivery apps take EBT?

Five large apps and stores take SNAP EBT for online grocery orders. None of them let SNAP pay for fees or tips.²

Smaller services are on USDA's lists too. In Texas, for example, USDA's online retailer list includes Gopuff and DoorDash's own DashMart stores.⁷ Grubhub grocery orders that run through Instacart also take EBT, Instacart says.³ USDA's page for your state lists the online stores that take SNAP there, and each store's site shows whether it delivers to your address.²

How do you use EBT on DoorDash?

You add your card once, shop a store with the SNAP label, and the eligible part of your order goes on SNAP automatically.¹ Here are DoorDash's steps:

1. Add your card. Go to Account, then Payment, then Program Cards, tap "SNAP/EBT Card" and enter the card number. You can also add it at checkout.¹
2. Add a backup card. A debit card, credit card or DoorDash Credits pays the rest of the subtotal, taxes and fees.¹
3. Find a store. Tap the grocery or convenience icon and turn on the SNAP filter.¹
4. Shop eligible items. Look for the SNAP icon on each item's info screen.¹
5. Check out. The SNAP-eligible subtotal is applied for you. Tap "Apply SNAP Amount" to change it, then enter your PIN.¹

DoorDash doesn't charge tax on the part of an order you pay with SNAP.¹

What stores on DoorDash accept EBT?

DoorDash lists more than 50 chains, including ALDI, Albertsons, Dollar General, Food Lion, Hy-Vee, Meijer, Safeway, Sprouts, Walgreens and Wegmans.⁸ Some 7-Eleven and Speedway stores take it too, but not all of them.⁸ To see which stores deliver to your address, use the SNAP filter in the app.¹

Can you use EBT on DoorDash for fast food?

No. SNAP can't buy food that is hot at the point of sale, so restaurant orders on DoorDash don't qualify.⁹ DoorDash takes SNAP only at grocery and convenience stores.¹ Our guide to restaurants that accept EBT explains the separate Restaurant Meals Program, which works in person, not through apps.

Why is my EBT card restricted on DoorDash?

Three things can block SNAP on an order:

• The item isn't SNAP food. Pet food, cleaning supplies, vitamins, hot foods and alcohol never qualify.⁹
• Your state restricts it. USDA lists 23 states with food restriction waivers, mostly blocking soda, candy or energy drinks.¹⁰ A federal court stopped the waivers in Colorado, Iowa, Tennessee and West Virginia on June 22, 2026.¹⁰ Instacart says these 2026 rules apply to its orders and vary by state.¹¹
• The store or feature doesn't take SNAP. Only stores with the SNAP label qualify, and DoubleDash add-ons can't use SNAP.¹

How do you remove or change an EBT card on DoorDash?

In the app, open Payment, find the card under "Saved Payment Methods" and slide it left to remove it.¹² On the website, open the menu, click Payment and then the trash icon next to the card.¹² Then add your new card under Program Cards.¹

How do you use EBT on Instacart?

Instacart takes SNAP and SUN Bucks at participating stores, but it can't take EBT cash.³ The key rule is timing: your EBT card has to be on your account before you place the order.¹³

1. Tap Account, then Settings, then EBT SNAP under Payment Methods, and add your card. You can save one EBT card at a time.³
2. Add a debit or credit card. It covers fees, bottle deposits in some states, taxes, tips and non-SNAP items.³
3. At checkout, pick both cards and check the payment split.¹³
4. After you place the order, enter your EBT PIN to confirm it.¹³

You can move more of the bill onto SNAP until the order is delivered, but never more than the cost of the eligible items.¹³

Which stores accept EBT on Instacart?

Instacart's list covers national chains and many local markets. It includes ALDI, Costco, Food Lion, Kroger, ShopRite, Walgreens and Wegmans, with the states each one serves.¹⁴ The store has to take EBT online in your state for the option to show.³

Can you use EBT on Amazon?

Yes. Amazon takes SNAP EBT and cash EBT, and you sign up at amazon.com/ebt.⁴ You can register one EBT card at a time.⁴

• SNAP: Covers eligible food sold and shipped by Amazon.com or Amazon Fresh, and Whole Foods Market on Amazon.⁴
• Amazon Fresh fees for SNAP shoppers: Delivery is free on orders of $100 or more. Smaller delivery orders carry a $6.95 to $9.95 service fee, and pickup at Amazon Fresh stores is free where offered.⁴
• Cash EBT: Works on most categories, including items from third-party sellers.⁴

Does Amazon Prime have an EBT discount?

Yes. Prime Access is a discounted Prime membership for people in SNAP and other listed assistance programs, or who verify a low income.¹⁵ To join with SNAP, you enter your EBT number and upload a photo of your card at amazon.com/primeaccess.¹⁵ You keep the discount by verifying again every 12 months.¹⁵ Our list of EBT discounts covers Prime Access alongside museum, phone and internet deals.

Can you use EBT on Walmart and Uber Eats?

Walmart: Add your SNAP EBT card to your account, shop eligible items, and enter your PIN at checkout for pickup or delivery.⁵ Our guide to Walmart, Target and ALDI EBT rules covers Walmart's online rules in detail.

Uber Eats: Go to Account, then Wallet, then Add payment method, and add your EBT card.⁶ Items with a "SNAP" tag at participating stores qualify, for delivery or pickup.⁶ Fees and tips go on a second card.⁶

Can you get free grocery delivery with EBT?

Not with SNAP itself, since federal rules bar SNAP from paying any fee.² But most apps sell a cheaper membership to SNAP shoppers that removes delivery fees on larger orders.

The DoorDash and Instacart offers require a SNAP order on that app in the last 6 months.¹⁷¹⁸ Instacart's plan renews at $9.99 a month after the first year unless you cancel, so check each plan's renewal terms when you join.¹⁸

What can't SNAP pay for when you order online?

The same food rules apply online as in a store, plus a ban on fees.² Your backup card covers:

• Delivery, service and convenience fees²
• Tips, taxes and bottle deposits³
• Hot foods, alcohol, vitamins and supplements⁹
• Pet food, paper goods, cleaning supplies, hygiene items and cosmetics⁹

What happens with substitutions and refunds?

On DoorDash, a refund for an item you paid with SNAP goes back to your EBT card.¹ If a shopper swaps in a pricier item, your backup card pays the difference.¹ Instacart works the same way: to keep a swap fully on SNAP, it must be SNAP-eligible and cost no more than the original.¹³

Is it safe to use your EBT card online?

Yes, when you shop on an approved site. Every online SNAP purchase still needs your PIN, and stores must use an approved secure PIN-entry company.² USDA says state agencies and EBT processors will never call or text to ask for your PIN or card number.¹⁹

No delivery where you live?

Apps only deliver to ZIP codes where a store can bring its full line of groceries, including perishable items.² If none reach you, some food pantries deliver. Of the 7,566 confirmed listings in the PantryPath directory, 1,219 (16%) list a delivery service, based on our October 26, 2026 query.²⁰

Can I use EBT cash on DoorDash?

DoorDash's help center describes SNAP food benefits only and doesn't say cash EBT works.¹ Plan to pay for anything that isn't SNAP food with a debit or credit card. If you have cash benefits to spend online, Amazon's help page says it takes cash EBT on most categories.⁴

Can you use food stamps on DoorDash and tip with them?

You can use food stamps (SNAP) for eligible groceries on DoorDash, but not for the tip.¹ USDA bars SNAP from paying fees of any kind.² Tips go on your backup card.

Is it cheaper to order groceries on DoorDash or Instacart?

The SNAP memberships cost the same: $4.99 a month for the first year on both.¹⁷¹⁸ Item prices and fees differ by store, so compare the total at checkout before you pay.

Does Uber Eats take EBT?

Yes, for SNAP-tagged groceries at participating stores, on delivery or pickup orders.⁶ Restaurant food is still not SNAP-eligible.⁹

Does SNAP online shopping work in every state?

Yes. It works in all 50 states and DC.² Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands haven't started it yet.²

Can I buy groceries online with EBT for pickup?

Yes. Walmart, Uber Eats and Amazon Fresh stores all offer pickup with SNAP, and pickup avoids delivery fees.⁵⁶⁴
